Sammye Belle (Hodges) Hodges

August 17, 1952 ~ May 6, 2020 (age 67)

Sammye Belle Hodges was born on Augutst 17, 1952 in Monette, Arkansas to Robert and Annie (Jimmie) Hodges.
She was 1 of 8 children, 3 boys and 5 girls.  Jimmy, Jerrye, Bobbie, James, Johnnie, Barbara, Sammye and Judy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother and 3 sisters.  Sammye is survived by her daughter Anna Louise
Hernandez, son-in-law Shawn, grandchildren Brennen, Sydney and Blake, and great grandson Antonio.  She is also survived
by sister Judy and husband Roy Gonzales, brothers Johnnie and James Hodges. Numerous nieces, nephews and great
nieces and nephews, she had an extended family, the Saunders that treated her and Anna as one of their own.
Sammye lived most of her school years in Slaton, TX.  Then they last couple of her HS years the family move to
Baytown where Sammye graduated in 1970 from Robert E. Lee High School.  She moved to Lubbock some time after graduation
and lived with her sister Bobbie and her family.  While in Lubbock Anna was born on August 17, 1974. It should be known
this was Sammye's birthday as well as her sister Bobbie's birthday.
In 1976 Sammye and Anna loaded her VW bug and moved to Smithville with her mom and dad and has been
here ever since.  Sammye worked different jobs in Smithville thru her life and then went to
work for the TX Water Development Board and worked there for 25 yrs until her retirement in 2008.  When working
full time for the state she also worked nights at Watkins Laundromat.  During her employment around town she met alot of
people and made friends along the way.  She even had a snow cone stand in town a couple of summers after retirement.
She was very active in the Smithville Jamboree earning a Lifetime Critter pin in 1992 and she never quit helping in
anyway she could.  She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church
holding an elder position on and off throughout the years and making sure the children of the church were in class
and had snack after.

In her younger years one of the best times was spent with her friends each Sunday after church floating the Colorado River.
She also enjoyed yearly beach trips to South Padre Island.  And of course Smithville Jamboree each year.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life.  She didn't miss a game, right there in the stands cheering
them on until this last fall when changes in her health didn't make it so easy to attend.  But she was shown
pictures and updated soon after each game.

Over the last six years Sammye has experienced several different issues with her health and in the last couple of months
her health declined even more and she passed away in the Towers Nursing Home in the early morning hours of May 6, 2020.
She is now at peace and without any health issues or pain and with the loved ones that passed before her. She was a great mom
an even greater nanny.  She loved her nieces and nephews and her loving friends.  She will be missed terribly.
